Brief notes:
Commissioned and dedicated to my beloved friend, David Pont Ripoll. First performance was given by David Pont Ripoll and the Silleda Municipal Wind Orchestra, conducted by Rafa Agulló, at Green-Week Concert Hall, Silleda (Spain) on April 19, 2014.
Three Revelations is inspired by three revelations extracted from the Lotus Sūtra, one of the most influential and venerated Buddhist Mahāyāna sūtras. Although each one of these revelations gives title to a concrete movement, there is no programmatic lecture, but rather some kind of extra-musical "figurative-abstraction" linked to the sonic gesture itself. The movements based on these revelations are:
I. To awaken in the light of the Universe:
Portrays the vastness and richness of the experience of the human mind, expanding its field of view from the narrow confines of daily life to the contemplation of and merging with the entire universe.
II. To contemplate the depths of the soul:
Represents a turning away of the mind from the "outer" to the "inner" universe, attempting to fathom the limitless possibilities of human consciousness in its quest for identity and to answer the eternal questions beginning with the word "Why?"
III. To rejoicing in the beauty of the peace:
Depicts the realization that, while on earth, peace is not merely the absence of war, destruction, pain, and suffering but is, in fact, a thing of beauty in and of itself. It is an occasion for heartfelt rejoicing on the part of all creatures who share the same eternal quest, as true brothers, everywhere.
Encargada y dedicada a mi querido amigo, David Pont Ripoll.
